Use case
What is the best proxy for tracking Google rankings in Asia?
Short answerThe best proxy for tracking Google rankings in Asia is a rotating residential IP in the country, and for local queries the city, whose results you need, because Google picks results from the searcher's location. Jade Proxies sells residential IPs in 13 Asian countries with city targeting included, from $0.50/GB, for Google, Naver, Yahoo! JAPAN and Coc Coc.
Why do Asian search results depend on the searcher's IP?
Search results in Asia depend on the searcher's IP because Google takes the country and city of results from the searcher's location, not from the domain typed. Google switched to location-based results in 2017, and in April 2025 it announced that country domains such as google.co.jp and google.co.id would redirect to google.com.
A rank tracker running on a server in Singapore therefore sees Singaporean local packs, ads and nearby businesses, even when it asks for Indonesian results. Only an IP in the target country, and for local queries in the target city, shows what a resident sees.
Which search engines matter in each Asian country?
Google leads in most of Asia, but three markets need a second engine: Naver in South Korea, Yahoo! JAPAN in Japan and Coc Coc in Vietnam.
| Country | Engines to track | Google parameters | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Japan | Google, Yahoo! JAPAN | gl=jp&hl=ja | Yahoo! JAPAN has used Google's search technology since 2010, with its own layout, ads and modules |
| South Korea | Naver, Google | gl=kr&hl=ko | Naver mixes blog, café, Knowledge iN and shopping blocks into search.naver.com results |
| Vietnam | Google, Coc Coc | gl=vn&hl=vi | Coc Coc is a Vietnamese browser and search engine |
| India | gl=in&hl=en or hl=hi | City options include Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru | |
| Indonesia | gl=id&hl=id | City options include Jakarta, Surabaya and Bandung | |
| Thailand | gl=th&hl=th | City options include Bangkok and Chiang Mai | |
| Taiwan | gl=tw&hl=zh-TW | Traditional Chinese interface | |
| Philippines | gl=ph&hl=en | City options include Manila and Cebu City |
Baidu is out of scope: mainland China, North Korea and Iran are not sold; sanctioned countries and regions are blocked. The country guides for Japan and South Korea list the ISPs behind each IP.
How do the hl and gl parameters work with a proxy?
The hl parameter sets the interface language, gl sets the country of results, and the proxy supplies the location that Google uses for everything local. Keep the three consistent: gl=jp&hl=ja through USERNAME-country-jp-city-osaka shows what a Japanese speaker in Osaka sees. Some trackers also send a uule location string; an IP in the same city keeps both signals aligned.
Two changes since 2025 shape every tracker's setup:
- JavaScript is required. Since January 2025 Google Search needs JavaScript, so most trackers render result pages in a headless browser, which raises the traffic per check.
num=100is gone. Since September 2025 Google ignoresnum=100, so a top-100 check takes 10 requests of 10 results each.
Do you need city targeting for rank tracking?
City targeting matters for every query with local intent, such as clinics, restaurants, property, delivery or retail stores, because Google ranks nearby businesses for those. For national queries such as product reviews or software, country targeting is enough.
With Jade Proxies, add the city to the username (city-mumbai, city-jakarta, city-seoul): Jade Proxies offers country and city targeting on every plan; ASN targeting at no extra cost; city availability varies.
The larger tracking plans in the cost table below reach 60 to 120 GB a month, so the 100 GB price is the one to compare. According to Jade Proxies, which read 7 other providers' own pricing pages on 18 October 2026, the median price of a city-targeted residential GB at 100 GB was $2.00, from $0.65 (Geonode, monthly subscription) to $4.00 (Oxylabs); DataImpulse's $2.00 is its city rate, double its standard one. Jade Proxies charges $0.50/GB at that volume, city included. The Asia residential proxy price index gives the full comparison.
Should you use rotating or sticky proxies for SERP tracking?
Use rotating proxies for SERP tracking, because each keyword check is independent and spreading checks across many IPs keeps the rate per IP low. With Jade Proxies, each new connection gets an IP from the pool, usually a different one; to get a new IP on every request, send one request per connection (turn off keep-alive).
Use a sticky session only when one check spans several requests, such as pages 1 to 10 of a top-100 check or a Naver query with several result tabs. A session lasts up to 30 minutes (the IP can change earlier), which covers a paginated check with a wide margin. The rotating vs sticky guide covers session length in detail.
How much does SERP tracking in Asia cost?
SERP tracking costs from about $4 a month for 500 daily keywords in one country to about $60 for a daily top-100 check of 1,000 keywords. Page weight depends on your renderer, so the figure below is an assumption, not a measurement: 400 KB per result page rendered in a headless browser with images blocked.
| Tracking plan (30 days, daily checks) | Result pages | Traffic at 400 KB | Rate | Monthly cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 500 keywords, top 10, 1 country | 15,000 | 6 GB | $0.66/GB | $3.96 |
| 1,000 keywords, top 10, 5 countries | 150,000 | 60 GB | $0.50/GB | $30 |
| 1,000 keywords, top 100, 1 country | 300,000 | 120 GB | $0.50/GB | $60 |
The arithmetic for the last row: 1,000 keywords × 10 pages × 30 days = 300,000 pages, × 400 KB = 120 GB. The 60 GB row assumes a 100 GB plan that lasts 50 days, since traffic never expires. Japan, Korea and India cost the same per GB. Every plan is on the pricing page.
What are the limits of proxies for rank tracking?
A proxy controls location, not personalisation or rate limits. Three practical rules follow:
- Run logged out with clean cookies. Search history and account settings personalise results and hide the ranking a new visitor sees.
- Keep the rate per IP low. Google challenges any IP that sends queries too fast; Jade Proxies does not solve CAPTCHAs, so spread checks over time and IPs.
- Use your own data where it exists. For your own site, Google Search Console reports average position by country and device for free; proxies fill the gap for competitors, local packs and city-level views.
For mobile rankings, a residential IP with a mobile user agent and viewport covers organic results, since Google completed its move to mobile-first indexing in October 2023. Check from a 4G/5G mobile IP only when ads or results depend on the carrier.
Frequently asked questions
Can I track Naver rankings with a residential proxy?
Yes. A Korean residential IP shows Naver's results and ads as a user in Korea sees them; a Jade Proxies IP in Seoul or Busan exits through ISPs such as KT, SK Broadband or LG U+. Use a sticky session when one check covers several Naver result tabs.
Does Yahoo! JAPAN show the same rankings as Google?
Not exactly. Yahoo! JAPAN has used Google's search technology since 2010, but its result pages carry their own layout, ads and Yahoo modules, so positions on the page differ. Track both from a Japanese IP.
How many countries can one plan cover?
All 13. One residential balance works in every country; you change country-jp to country-in in the username, and the price per GB stays the same.
Do I need a mobile proxy to track mobile rankings?
No, for organic results. A residential IP with a mobile user agent shows the mobile result page; a carrier IP matters only when ads or results depend on the mobile network.
Can I track Baidu rankings?
No. Jade Proxies does not sell mainland China IPs, which Baidu tracking requires. Hong Kong and Taiwan IPs are available for Google results in Traditional Chinese.
